Change timeout setting for lockscreen in Windows 8

As many of you probably have noted, when locking the computer in Windows 8, the screen turns of after one minute.

This can be quite frustrating sometimes, and to change it isn’t obvious.

To change it, you first need to add “Console lock display off timeout” to your advanced power settings.

Open regedit as admin, and browse to:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPowerPowerSettings7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc998EC4B3A5-6868-48c2-BE75-4F3044BE88A7
  • Change the value for “Attributes” from “1” to “2”
  • Close regedit

When this has been done open the advanced power settings.

  • Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change advanced power settings.

Now, you will have the “Console lock display off timeout” added under display.
